A huge chunk of my many hats is related to hobbies I take. They change a lot and are super varied throughout!
The thing I like about crochet is not only the number of things I get to do myself instead of buying (think scarves, hats, mittens, blankets, household reusable things, etc..) but also the meditation process that comes with it. Plus, with the added bonus of the creativity that always comes with making things with our own hands!
Yesterday, the first part of my new project was launched. Well, let’s start at the beginning : what does MAL stand for, anyway? MAL stands for Make ALong, and it’s basically when a group of folks gets together to make the same project. In these days, this is mostly happening online! This specific one though has a couple of things I love:
- It’s a mystery MAL, which means we don’t know what the finished piece will look like until the end (for this one, we do know it’s a cardigan)
- It’s full of colors! This designer – Katie Jones – is known for throwing a bunch of colors together and creating cool stuff with them!
Both these things mean this is a huge challenge for me as it’s hard for to work on something without having a clear idea of the outcome and cause in all honesty, I would never work on most of these colors and certainly not all of them together in one wearable project.
This first part is about creating 24 squares, 4 of each of the 6 color combos. You can have a quick look at the first two combos here:

Would I ever pick these colors and put them together?? No!!!! Am I loving them? Definitely!!
I hope I can stick it out until the end! Even if the final piece is not my favorite, I can always gift it to someone at the end or even sell it!
I am super excited about this project!
And you? Do you have any hobbies that challenge your creative side???

Sounds fun the mystery MAL! I learned something. What an interesting concept.
[…] I completed part 1! This is quite a random post, I know. You can read more about the project here: Crochet Project: No Shades of Grey MAL […]
